This is a morning (8AM-12PM) "Paint Out" led
by Stan Sperlak to several locations frequented by the great artist
Robert Henri who painted in Avalon in the 1890's. Stan will demonstrate
the impressionist style while painting in the dunes and back waterways
of town. While not a traditional workshop, Stan will still offer advice
to those seeking pointers, and the event is open to all media and levels.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet many South Jersey artists. At
12 Noon all artists will meet at The Avalon Historical Museum for a
group critique/chat and eat their lunches at 215 39th St.
This event is on the same day that Stan will introduce
a new body of work at his solo show at Avery & Powers/Avery &

that evening at 6PM.

Payment
and Cancellation Policy
Please contact the individual workshop coordinators
for specifics and registration and policies on all workshops as listed.
I can answer questions, but they will send and register all information
and as independent organizations, are liable for all information.
For multiple day workshops, Annapolis, Snow Hill,
Stone Harbor, Cape May, Bucks County & Goshen See Below,
One day workshops contact the sponsoring institution directly.
To reserve a spot in a workshop your payment
by either check or credit card must be received by Crow Creek Studio
in a timely fashion. All registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served
basis. The classes are well attended, so we recommend you apply early
since many classes are filled early. The registration deadline for each
workshop is one month before the workshops begins. Space may be available
up to the day of the workshop, feel free to call.
Fees
Fees are noted in each workshop description. The
fee includes: workshop instruction and if noted, an orientation get
together. It does not any include workshop supplies, lodging, airfare,
or any other expenses. Models are occasionally available and are included.
Please download workshops supply list here (workshopsupplylist.pdf)
Deposit
Payment in full is required for all one day workshops (30 days prior).
A minimum $150.00 deposit is required to hold your place in any multiple
day workshop, and must be submitted at the time of registration. Registration
is guaranteed when the proper deposits have been made. If a class is
full when your registration is received, you will be contacted immediately
to see if you want to be placed on a waiting list.
Balance
The balance of the tuition is due no later than 30-days before the beginning
of the workshop. Failure to pay your balance on time could result in
you losing part of your deposit and being replaced by someone on the
waiting list. If you paid your deposit with a credit card, we will automatically
debit that card again 30-days before the workshop for the balance unless
you notify us otherwise. We will not contact you about this unless the
charge does not go through.
Cancellation
and Refund Policy
Prior to 30 days before the start of a workshop,
a $25.00 administrative fee will be retained for all cancellations.
There is considerable work involved in registering and accounting and
corresponding with folks to make this charge valid. Often other people
are turned down because the class is full and it is a loss when the
space cannot be filled. For cancellations less than 30 days before the
workshop begins, tuition is non-refundable, unless a waiting list participant
takes your place. No refunds will be given for no-shows or withdrawals
after a workshop has begun regardless of the reason. In the rare case
a workshop is cancelled due to the illness of instructor or due to insufficient
enrollment, students will receive a full refund. We recommend you purchase
refundable airline tickets or purchase travel insurance to cover the
cost in case your workshop is cancelled.
Lunch
In the interest of maximizing the day and logistics,
we recommend that one day workshop attendees bring a well packed cooler
with lunch, juice and snacks, so we don't have to stop and send people
off on trips etc... which is a big distraction during the day. Multiple
day workshops will take advantage of deli's, restaurants and packing
lunches. Consideration will be given to where folks can use a local
restroom in advance when we are away from the Farm.
Supplies
Students are expected to have all of their supplies
ready, with boxes opened, paper ready and full familiarity with their
tools. Crow Creek Studio does not have any products for sale. Please
download supply list workshopsupplylist.pdf
Lodging
Upon registration I will e-mail or send a list of places to stay in
the area. Making reservations is the student's responsibility and I
am not liable for any situations arising from those choices. Not much
time is spent at your lodging and B&B's usually don't make breakfast
as early as you need them to, so the extra fee may be prohibitive. Maybe
you can ask for a non-breakfast option?
Final Notes
These workshops are about learning and experimenting
and visiting new places to challenge yourself. Students should not concern
themselves with coming back with a "great painting" nor should
students feel that I expect them to impress me or other students, we
approach this with open minds and free spirits with a feeling of camaraderie
in the arts and exploration. It is more constructive to do 8-10 small
studies in a day, than labor over one or two that get overworked.
I advise students that it is very important to
be early to the classes so you can walk around, loosen up after a car
ride, familiarize yourself with the location and get your supplies ready.
I start each class with a very brief talk and jump right into a demo.
I keep the demos short and talk right thru them as I want to give you
the most time to work and so I can move from student to student. As
the day goes on, I can best decide what other demo ideas each class
seems to be needing, and feel that a set, stock or pre planned teaching
itinerary can be boring. I will work very hard for you, and I am very
direct with my teaching style.
Copyright Issues/Please Read
Many artists/teachers are now emphasizing proper
respect to copyright issues and intellectual property rights. An original
piece of art is exactly that: wholly original from concept/design/execution
and presentation. Artists in workshops need to respect that paintings
accomplished in workshops are part of a teachers overall design. These
works should not be shown without some sort of credit given to the teacher.
(regardless of the attendees experience or time the teacher discussed
any particular work). They should NEVER be entered into competitions
or galleries or copied and sold as prints. Of course you should frame
and keep or give works that you are happy with. Artists should create
their own versions for sale from those studies, in new sizes and formats,
or work from photos taken at the class on their own time. We should
always work from our own photographs when in the studio, or better yet,
a life study of the same subject we are developing into a painting.
It is very gratifying to see the growth and influence that may come
from attending a workshop, and I encourage students to use techniques
and advice I may give to further expand their working experiences and
fulfill their artistic goals.
